Day 2. 4:57am. Borrowed tent + borrowed sleeping bag + cold stormy night = no sleep. Not even 1.
General concensus was that they sat too close to the fire though.
....who were quick with a joke, or a light of your smoke.
They were a happy-go-lucky crowd.....
....who had AK47 rifles and lit a fire.
And we were camping with a few others. They also had their own 'security'...

All the junk now gets loaded onto a mule (called Salmon) and walked to the first of three campsites. We also walk via a more tourist-friendly route. Day 1.

He never let his gun out of his grasp.
This is our scout. He was there to protect us from the evils of the mountains. He was old, short sighted and owned a WW2 Italian rifle. We paid him £3 a day.
Jimba falls. Dry season hence no water. Not as impressive as the pictures in the guidebook will have you imagine.
It's just magnificent. Sorry to those viewers who are in the 'Toyota supporters' camp. But I own the camera and half of a Range Rover.
This day we had six people, most of our junk, camping equipment for everyone and enough food/cooking equipment to survive for a week in the mountains, all in/on the Range Rover. And then we tried to d…
...baboons!
From Gondar we headed to the Simien Mountains. This is the start on day 1. If you look closely you might just be able to make out....
Cows
And here are some flowers. Are you happy girls?
The girls insisted we take pictures of these birds too. Just to even out the balance.
...they fascinated the boys and bored the girls...this one's a V12 Deutz petrol engine. The keen-eyed ones amongst you will notice it's air cooled. Hmmm interesting. No gearbox either. What's it from?…
We found a scrap yard at the back of the docks with some really big engines in it....

Begging child
The 10Birr note (Ethiopian money) has a picture of a tractor on it. We haven't seen any yet. However we later saw this man carrying his plough which is not something most farmers (even the sturdy Corn…

I had to take my shoes off and they had separate entrances for boys and girls.
All the paintings are a couple of hundred years old and the walls are made of mud.

St George slaying the dragon! Hooray! Thanks for the Bank Holiday.
The end wall. Do you feel judged?
More of the ceiling
'...and this is what I'm going to do to you if you don't let me go home....'
More killing
This man wanted us to leave so he could go home.
The walls are painted too. Generally lots of killing going on.
...and then went inside and took some photos. This is the painted ceiling. Angels apparently.
....paid some people some money (predictably)....
...pondered it...
