48 mPittenweem Harbour Pittenweem's charter conferring its status as a royal burgh dates back to 1541, but it is clear from the historical record that the town's function as a harbour stretches back to at least 1228. Still a working harbour today, Pittenweem's fishing fleet depend on catches of prawn, lobster and crab, which are then exported to the European markets of France, Spain and Holland. Very little white fish is landed.
