| Title | The Langstone Rock and Dawlish Warren Taken from on board the MV My Queen off Exemouth seafront on an RSPB organised cruise. The sandy beach is the sea side of Dawlish Warren, and the dark shape of Langstone Rock is in the centre. The "U" shaped cutting to the right side of the Rock is where Brunel cut through for the South Devon Railway mainline. To the left of Langstone Rock, Holcombe Head is partly in cloud shadow, and in the distance are the cliffs of Babbacombe Bay. |

The huge piles of rocks on the sea shore are there to protect the railway line which runs behind them, although it is the Dawlish Warren sandspit itself which is of most concern. If it shifts or is eroded it could expose a long stretch of the railway along the edge of the Exe estuary to the full force of the sea.
