Two inclines fed down from the end of the Benallt Tramway above to this level. One of these can be seen clearly behind the drum house. The drum house at the top of it has been demolished.

The incline and the wooden pier were built between 1902 and 1903 at the cost of £182. The incline was last used in the early 1920s and the pier in 1927. It was also the line of approach to the coast chosen by the builders of the tramway which brought ore from the Benallt Mine to the shipping point. Other features in the photo include the tombolo linked Maen Gwenonwy, Carreg Chwislen, the Ebolion stacks and Ynysoedd y Gwylanod. The background is formed by Ynys Enlli (Bardsey Island).
